Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: recognize and define common terms in the field of special education; describe in detail the signs, symptoms and solutions for a particular learning difference; identify resources and teaching strategies for exceptional learners; initiate independent study and research on a particular learning difference; create an individualized educational plan appropriate to the needs of the exceptional learner in an Anabaptist school; develop compassion and vision for helping exceptional learners in a classroom setting; create a philosophy that seeks to understand God’s plan and work in the lives of exceptional learners; and develop discernment and critical thinking skills when faced with theories, symptoms, solutions, fads, gimmicks and medications for the exceptional learner.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: create lesson plans with measurable objectives and a clear plan for accomplishing those objectives; prepare and present components of lessons; utilize visual and auditory tools; apply solid classroom management strategies to develop an overall classroom management plan and develop a discipline plan for the classroom; deliver prepared and approved lessons in a class setting, enabling student mastery of stated objectives; increase effectiveness and awareness by self-evaluating teaching; assess observed teaching for achievement of objectives, for presentation, and for classroom management; evaluate themselves and others for effective teaching practices; and constructively participate in daily debriefing meetings

Version 1, 2, and 3: Upon successful completion of this course, student will be able to: write and develop a thesis using various rhetorical modes: description, process analysis, cause-effect, comparison-contrast and narration; practice the elements of argumentation and persuasion, and understand the concepts of purpose and audience; practice principles of effective diction and sentence structure; understand and apply the basic elements of style; apply appropriate research and documentation methodology in writing a research paper; analyze expository writing or works of literature in order to learn techniques for clear expression and logical support of ideas.

Version 1 and 2: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: recognize and use literary terminology; analyze the presuppositions behind a literary work; write effective, analytical and responsive essays about literature; grow in self-awareness and personal character through reading of literature; and read with awareness that literature can embody the most serious attempts of human beings to understand and express what life means.

Version 1, 2, and 3: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to identify the major events and movements and persons since the time of the Reformation; explain how the different strands of the Christian tradition arose; and discuss themes of importance to an Anabaptist perspective, such as non-resistance and church-state issues.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: understand and discuss the major philosophical views of history; compare and contrast patterns of culture Oriental History with western culture; exploure the impact of African history; exploure aborigine cultures of the Americas; correlate biblical history with the broader world history; identify and appreciate the Greco-Roman contribution to Western Civilization; see the centrality of medieval church history in pre-Reformation Europe; and identify and explain the political and geographic landscape of Renaissance/Reformation Europe.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: articulate the biblical, historical, cultural, and strategic aspects of ministry worldwide; discuss ministry skills in direct interaction with ministry and mission practitioners; assess one’s place in the work of worldwide ministry by evaluating one’s own gifting and abilities alongside the opportunities available; describe the vision and activities of organizations that minister to people in urban settings or prisons; exercise ministry skills in participation with organizations that minister to people in urban settings or prisons; integrate oneself with other students as a team in ministry, experiencing how a group is more than the sum of its parts; participate in group worship; and evaluate personal and team experiences.

Version 1 and 2: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: discuss the historical, political, social and religious context of the intertestamental Jewish and Greco-Roman worlds from which the New Testament arose; demonstrate knowledge concerning authorship, date, setting and content of each New Testament book; trace the development of the early church; recognize the various types of New Testament literature; discuss the plot, characterization and theme of the four gospels; and provide an overview of the life, teachings and importance of Jesus.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: explain and defend their personal understanding of what it means to follow Jesus; summarize major discipleship emphases in different Christian traditions; investigate and evaluate perspectives of discipleship both similar to and different from their own and offer appropriate responses; and set goals and practice skills for enabling others to follow Jesus.

Version 1 and 2: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: understand and practice the fundamentals of a successful choir; appreciate good choral sound and achieve a basic understanding of how it is produced; develop musicality; and experience worship in a choral program.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to: name and describe the markers that define abuse; recognize symptoms of abuse; compare and contrast common responses to abuse; compare and contrast factors that affect the severity of abuse; summarize helpful steps toward recovery from abuse; understand and apply Pennsylvania state law to incidents of abuse; and summarize the process of forgiveness and demonstrate how it applies to the experience of abuse.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: recognize the reasons for the development of theology in the early church; identify and recognize the importance of the development and expression of important Christian doctrines; analyze the interaction of church and culture in the formulation of doctrine; discuss the various strands of Christian orthodoxy; and analyze one's own beliefs in context of two thousand years of the development of the church's expression of her faith.

Version 2: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: recognize and avoid the misreading, misapplication, and misinterpretation of Scripture; use commonly accepted methods for determining the meaning intended by the author of a biblical passage; understand and use a variety of tools (including study aids) for more effective Bible reading, interpretation, and application; explain several significant issues surrounding the interpretation and application of Scripture; encourage appropriate applications of Scripture to contemporary life; encourage a lifelong commitment to a study of God's word as well as accuracy, integrity, and practicality in that pursuit. Version 3: Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: see with greater breadth, depth, and understanding what is written in Scripture; use commonly accepted methods for receiving the intended meaning by the author of a biblical passage; understand and use a variety of study aids to more effectively read, interpret, and respond to the Bible; explain several significant issues surrounding the interpretation and application of Scripture; make appropriate responses to God's revelation in the scriptures; and develop a lifelong commitment to the study of God's word, carefulness, integrity, and practicality in that pursuit.
