BIB-500 Pentecostal Exploration of the Old Testament

Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: develop an understanding of the Old Testament as it influences the faith and practice of the Pentecostal Christian life; demonstrate understanding of the Word of God by knowing the content, structure, context, and theological emphasis of the Old Testament Pentecostal reading; identify the voice of the Spirit through the Word by reverentially acknowledging the presence and voice of the Spirit of God as revealed throughout the Old Testament, from the perspective of reading in the Pentecostal community; integrate the disciplines of study of the Bible specifically the Old Testament with the disciplines of study, analysis and writing of written works related to the main themes of the Old Testament study; establish healthy relationships with the community of faith based on the timeless values ​​established in the Word of God, particularly around the Old Testament; and discuss the customs of the Middle East within the living situation of the people of Israel; Develop the ministry of the Word, particularly of the Old Testament with activities of writing, speaking and spreading the Word in relation to various gifts of the ministry.

Instruction: 

This course comprises a panoramic study of the Old Testament rediscovering the biblical and theological foundations that presuppose the fulfillment of the Pentecostal outpouring in the New Testament, in the church, and in history. Emphasizes the pneumatology revealed in the Pentateuch, the prophets before and after. It closes with the promise of the spirit foretold by the postexilic prophets and its implications for the contemporary church.

Credit recommendation: 

In the graduate degree category, 3 semester hours in Biblical Studies, Theology, or Scriptural Study (3/25).
