Theories of Cognition and Learning (MED 600)

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: outline theories, principles, and current research in education; develop, implement, and/or oversee effective instructional strategies that meet the diverse needs of learners, foster critical thinking, and promote active engagement in learning; conduct rigorous educational research, evaluate scholarly literature, and apply research findings to enhance educational practice and inform decision-making; demonstrate leadership skills to lead educational initiatives, collaborate effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and communities; engage in ethical decision-making, reflect critically on their professional practice; and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development and lifelong learning.
In this graduate course, students explore foundational and contemporary theories of cognition and learning. Students analyze and apply theories to enhance instructional practices and improve student outcomes, evaluate the impact of different learning theories on educational methods and student engagement, and gain insights to foster more effective and engaging learning environments. This course prepares educators to critically assess and integrate cognitive principles into their teaching strategies.
