Teaching as a Profession (EDU 325)
60 hours (6 weeks).

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: define teaching and its importance to society; describe how philosophical approaches influence education practice; develop a personal philosophy of teaching and learning grounded in education theory; identify historical education laws and their impact on education; describe how to plan and implement effective instruction; apply concepts learned from the course to their own teaching practices and explain how to assess and evaluate different student learning styles; create a positive learning environment and collaborate with families.
This undergraduate course provides an overview of the teaching profession and prepares students for the rewards and challenges with becoming educators. This course provides a foundation of research-based practices, activities, and strategies to implement in the classroom for effective instruction. Students are required to reflect on their teaching careers and its impact on society.
In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Education, Teacher Preparation, Foundations of Teaching, or Introduction to Teaching (5/25).
