Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: examine the historical and legal foundations of special education, including key legislation and court cases that have shaped current practices; apply theories of child development to understand the diverse learning needs of students with disabilities and develop appropriate educational strategies; and design inclusive educational environments that accommodate the needs of students with disabilities, ensuring equitable access to learning opportunities.
This course explores the development and sustenance of inclusive, ethical, and collaborative educational environments. Students learn to promote equity and social justice while applying ethical principles in decision-making. Emphasis is placed on fostering a positive school climate, ensuring all members feel valued and supported. Practical strategies and theoretical frameworks are examined to enhance leadership skills in educational settings.
In the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 3 semester hours in Education, Special Education, or Inclusive Education (5/25).
