Principles of Instruction
16 Hours (5 Weeks).
January 2020 - Present.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: Discuss qualities of a good instructor; explain job performance requirements; describe components of a lesson plan; explain differences between cognitive and psychomotor lesson plans; describe characteristics of adult learners; discuss methods for meeting individual learning needs; explain factors that affect learning; explain the instructor’s role in safety; describe new technologies in course delivery; explain learning characteristics of different generations; and present a short cognitive lesson and a short psychomotor lesson.
The course consists of lectures, homework, group activities, delivery of a short psychomotor presentation and a short cognitive presentation, and a final exam taken in the classroom. Prerequisite: Firefighter I.
In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category OR in the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 1 semester hours in Educational Methods (8/25).
