Heavy Rescue I

January 2020 - Present.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: Safely and effectively operate hydraulic/battery powered rescue tools; safely and effectively operate air tools; safely and effectively operate air bags and specialized equipment; utilize stabilization equipment to safely and effectively stabilize vehicles in various positions; and discuss vehicle construction and technology as well as alternative fueled vehicles.
This course provides the student with the specialized skills required during heavy rescue/vehicle extrication and victim disentanglement operations. The program involves both classroom lecture and hands-on training. Prerequisite: Firefighter I or Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations (BEFO) with Hazardous Materials First Responder Operations (HMFRO).
In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Strategies and Tactics, Fire Science, Emergency Management, and Emergency Medical Services (8/25).
