Introduction to Gunsmithing (365)
30 hours (5 weeks).
November 2015 - December 2019.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: discuss the gunsmith industry by applying standard terminology and concepts as reflected in state licensing laws; explain gunsmith safety practices by applying safety rules of a state licensed shooting range; identify various tools and equipment used in basic gunsmithing tasks; apply proper cleaning techniques for a variety of guns; implement basic maintenance and service on a variety of guns; implement basic maintenance and service on a variety of guns; demonstrate the bore sighting process through application of the industry standard designated steps; demonstrate safe and effective sighting- in process by applying the industry standard designated steps.
Instruction is offered via traditional classroom format consisting of interactive lectures, in-class demonstrations, proctored skills applications/lab activities, and proctored testing. The course is conducted at a licensed shooting range. Major topics include: firearms safety, firearms cleaning and inspection, performance parts and accessories installation, bore sighting process, and sighting-in process.
