Learner Outcomes:
Students will be able to describe the history of the development of the physical theater space in the western theater tradition; appreciate a play from a visual perspective and implement the basic tools of the designers; discuss a play from the view of each of the design disciplines; discuss the organizational structure and personnel of the modern theater.
Instruction:
This introductory class will exposure students to the world of design and technical theatre in order to provide an overall view of how to achieve a unified theatrical production. Topics include: desgining/technology for scenery, lighting, costumes, props, sound, production and stage Management, as well as various positions, title and duties of the personnel involved in creating a production.
Credit recommendation:
In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category or in the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 3 semester hour in Theatre, Drama, Communications, or Radio and Television (7/12).
