Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: discuss substantial portions of Babylonian Talmud with the Rashi commentary; enrich their Talmudic vocabulary and knowledge of its logical give-and-take; and begin to independently study Talmudic texts.

Instruction: 

The course focuses on developing language skills and the ability to decipher the cryptic Talmudic text and reconstruct the dialogue. While increasing students' knowledge,  it grants them the tools for further study. Learning in breadth rather than in depth makes a students conversant in a variety of areas in Talmudic thought.  Text selection may vary. Prerequisite: Introduction to Divorce in Jewish Law; Introduction to Jewish Prayer. 

Credit recommendation: 

In the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 3 semester hours in Talmud or Hebraic Studies (10/10) (8/15 revalidation).
