Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to analyze selections of the Jewish liturgy emphasizing the Amidah- the core of Jewish prayer. The meaning and backgrounds of the prayers are also emphasized, including translations and clarifications of words and phrases.

Instruction: 

Students undertake a close reading and in depth examination of selections from the Jewish liturgy which enhance their understanding of the meaning of the prayers and the theology behind the structure and framework of the different sections of prayer.

Credit recommendation: 

In the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 3 semester hours in Jewish Thought, Liturgy, Near Eastern Studies, or Religion (5/06) (3/11 revalidation) (9/16 revalidation) (11/22 revalidation).
