Firefighter 1

Instructional delivery format: 
Hybrid course/exam
Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: meet standards required for a Firefighter I as outlined in Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications. Students who successfully complete the course will be issued a New  York State Firerfighter 1/Hazardous Material Operations certificate.

Instruction: 

Instruction is provided in a traditional classroom setting and in a distance learning format. This course is designed to provide students with the knowledge necessary to safely and effectively perform basic firefighting operations as part of a firefighting team.

Prerequisite: Current CPR and First Aid certification from an authorized agency.

Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate degree category, 7 semester hours distributed as follows: 3 in Fire Science, 3 in Fire Protection Technology, and 1 in Occupational Safety and Health (3/15).
