Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: work with the basics of purchasing and the purchasing environment in the private sector; use various approaches, tools, and strategies used in negotiations; explain the basics of entrepreneurship; identify the marketing management and strategies involved in the development of a marketing plan; and demonstrate knowledge of basic subjects in the areas of price and cost analysis from purchasing and production perspectives.
Instruction:
The Purchasing and Supply Chain Management Program provides an integrated approach to planning, acquisition, flow, and distribution from raw materials to finished products. Major topics include: Essentials of Purchasing, The Supply Chain Process, Management Essentials, Budgeting Essentials, The Procurement Process, Supplier Contracting, Persuasive Communication, Negotiating Strategies, Price and Cost Analysis, and Legal Aspects of Contracts. The course provides a foundation the CPM (Certified Purchasing Manager) certification exam, yet does not replace a CPM review program.
Credit recommendation:
In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, or in the upper division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 4 semester hours in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management in (10/13).
