Learner Outcomes: 
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: outline the process of freight brokering from start to finish; gain skills necessary to be successful as a freight broker or freight agent; learn basics of day-to-day operations of a brokerage or agency; use techniques such as prospecting, sales and marketing, rating, and negotiations; effectively manage a shipment from origin to destination; and acquire valuable industry resources.
Instruction: 

Students learn the basics for how to run a domestic freight brokerage or agency in the United States by learning aspects of the business from licensing to operations to sales and marketing. Major topics include: Freight Broker Basics, Marketing and Sales, Starting a Business, Shipper/Carrier Marketing and Dynamics, and Load Dynamics and Operations.

Credit recommendation: 
In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 2 semester hours in Freight Broker Training (10/13).
