Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: outline the various types of financing (from venture capital to traditional financing sources); gain confidence and improve communication skills; develop a successful leadership style; learn how to run a business in accord with legal requirements; learn the essentials of creating and developing a successful business plan that can be used for both internal strategic management and external positioning for financing; and explore the developmental process and understand how to successfully create change.

The Entrepreneurship: The Start-up Business Ownership Program provides an excellent foundation for not only start-up business owners, but also for business owners and managers who want to enhance their knowledge and understanding of fundamental principles associated with owning and operating a start-up or established business. Major topics include: Essentials of Business Ownership, Financial and Accounting Management, Marketing Management, Strategic Management in Operations, Positioning For and Securing Financing, Persuasive Communication, Organizational Leadership and Decision Making, Legal Issues in Operations, Business Plan Development, Understanding Financial Statements, Organizational Development and Change, and Principles of Buying and Selling a Business.

In the lower division certificate or associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Entrepreneurship, Small Business Management, Innovation, or New Venture Creation (10/13).
