TCH 105 Computer Concepts and Applications

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: analyze the major components of a computer system and explain their functions; examine the major components of system software and describe their functions; investigate areas where computers are effective tools and justify their usefulness; apply basic information system and computer terminology accurately; design and revise documents using a word processing software package with proficiency; develop and deliver compelling presentations using a presentation software package; analyze and present data effectively by organizing it within a spreadsheet software package; and manage and retrieve information efficiently utilizing a database software package. By the completion of the course, students will have a solid foundation in computer systems and software applications, equipping them with the skills necessary for effective utilization of technology in various professional and personal settings.
The course provides a comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of computer systems and software applications. Students learn how to use computers as tools for creativity, communication, information organization, and problem-solving. Students explore various areas where computers serve as effective tools, allowing them to justify their usefulness in different contexts. Students develop proficiency utilizing essential software packages and learn to apply basic information systems and computer terminology accurately and are guided in creating and editing documents using word processing software. Other topics include the creation and delivery of compelling presentations with presentation software, and the organization, analysis, and presentation of data using spreadsheet software; management and retrieval of information with database software.
In the associate/certificate degree category OR in the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Computer Applications, Business Administration, Business Management, or Information Systems, (7/24).
