Beginning Spanish I (SPA-101)

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: use basic Spanish vocabulary and phrases to participate in everyday conversations, including classroom interactions and social introductions; apply foundational Spanish grammar concepts, such as verb conjugations in the present and past tenses, to construct accurate sentences; describe people, places, and objects using appropriate adjectives and possessive structures in Spanish; discuss family relationships and traditions, incorporating vocabulary related to family dynamics and celebrations; and describe clothing and fashion choices, and engage in basic shopping conversations, using vocabulary related to colors, sizes, and preferences.
Beginning Spanish I (SPA-101) is an undergraduate course designed for students with little to no prior experience in the language, offering a comprehensive foundation in essential vocabulary, grammar, and cultural context. Through the use of an interactive textbook, students build skills needed to communicate effectively in everyday situations.
In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Spanish or as part of a Foreign Language requirement (4/25).
