2. Business of Musical Theatre

Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: identify the types of musical theatre auditions; research material for auditions; market themselves before and after auditions; network using business strategies; create marketing materials (headshots, resumes, websites); understand types and type casting in musical theatre auditions; engage with important players who they will encounter at auditions (director, choreographer, producer, etc.); understand the benefits of working with an agent or manager; understand production contracts; and articulate rules and regulations of professional performer unions.  

Instruction: 
This course provides students with advanced business information to prepare them as savvy, self-employed performers. Topics for discussion include preparing for auditions, business strategies including marketing materials and networking, developing relationships with directors, choreographers, producers, etc., reviewing production contracts; joining unions.
