Learner Outcomes:
Students will be able to: identify key steps to the Home Inspection process, categorize the different characteristics of soil and the effects on a home's foundation, identify different type of foundations and how to inspect them, perform a visual inspection of a home's exterior, classify key components to inspecting a home's interior, determine potential dangerous conditions of inspecting a home and avoid them, outline different types of cladding that protect a home from the elements and ways of inspecting them, name types and styles of roofing materials used and visually inspect them, identify basic electrical systems, list different types of heating and air conditioning systems, examine an inspection report and determine when to use one.
Instruction:
This introductory course provides a comprehensive perspective of inspecting a home and covers the process from the "outside looking in". The course is divided into illustrated topics to clarify important issues for understanding of the material. Methods of instruction include: reading assignments, unit quizzes, case studies, ride-along project, and final exam.
Credit recommendation:
In the lower division associate/baccalaureate degree category, 3 semester hours in Real Estate (3/12).
