Overview

The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, an NCCRS member since 1978, is responsible for providing effective and efficient correctional programs in New York State. The Department employs approximately 26,000 persons, including some 18,000 correction officers in work settings at 50 correctional locations, including correctional camps and community-based facilities.

The Training Academy provides entry-level training for new officers, regular in-service programs for permanent staff, management and executive development programs, and liaison activities with higher education institutions. Tuition support programs are available and coordinated by each employee's negotiating unit.
