Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: identify and explain reasons why moisture testing is performed and cite examples of typical tests used in the field; properly cut and assemble a seam; articulate key issues that installers face in stretch-in carpet installations (including tackstrip, cushion installation, and power stretching); identify and explain minimum standards for carpet installation as established by the Carpet and Rug Industry; install stretch-in carpet, cushion (pad); and demonstrate how to tighten carpet.

Instruction: 
The course builds on the concepts learned in the first year of the apprenticeship program and expands basic cutting and seaming skills. Instruction begins with concrete moisture testing and instructs students in properly installing flooring based on the manufacturer's specifications. Apprentices learn to identify various types of carpets and how to properly install them, following type-specific installation practices.
Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Floor Covering or related disciplines (9/10) (9/17 revalidation).
