Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: discuss the theoretical background of various methods of teaching reading and know which are considered most effective based on current research; develop a multi-lingual reading program at the pre-reading and fundamental levels; and identify appropriate materials and design supplementary materials.


Major topics are: reading development, assessment and remediation, teaching reading in a foreign language, teaching Mathematics, and introduction to research in teaching reading.

Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Education (2/11) (4/16 revalidation) (3/21 revalidation).
