The Coaching Relationship (PSY254)

Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: outline essential components of the coaching relationship and the methods used to put them in place; outline the various components of positive communication within the coaching relationship; build a successful coaching relationship based on the theoretical components mentioned above (to be demonstrated through practical applications during lab time in actual coaching segments); and use the elements of positive communication outlined above (to be demonstrated during lab time through actual coaching segments).

Instruction: 
Topics include: creating the relationship, establishing trust, respect and safety, effective positive communications, reframing, goal setting and brainstorming. Methods include lecture, discussion, in-class exercises and coaching role play.
Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category OR in the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 15 semester hours in Psychology or Counseling (10/10). NOTE: All five courses in the Life Coaching Program must be successfully completed in order to qualify for credit recommendations.
