Clinical Methods in Speech-Language Pathology (DES421)

Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: present principles and elements of the diagnostic and therapeutic process; select target behaviors for remediation and apply theory to increase and decrease those target behaviors; discuss the impact of cultural diversity upon diagnostic and therapeutic process; and perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and remediation techniques.


Topics include: various clinical methods, evaluation and practices, treatment, maintenance and selection of target behaviors, multicultural issues, professional issues, and the ASHA code of ethics. Pre- or co-requisite: Introduction to Communication Disorders (DES222) and two other speech courses. 

Credit recommendation: 

In the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 3 semester hours in Speech Language Pathology or Audiology (2/11) (4/16 revalidation) (3/21 revalidation).
