Fiber to the Home (FTTx) (361)

Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: define FTTx (FTTH/P, FTTC); compare types of FTTx architectures and networks, advantages, and disadvantages; describe FTTx components and options in types used; discuss testing and troubleshooting methodologies; discuss the design of FTTx networks; describe installation methods; and determine safe working practices. 

Instruction: 

Instruction is offered via traditional classroom format consisting of interactive lectures, in-class demonstrations, proctored skills applications/lab activities, and proctored testing. Topics include: fiber to the home, types of fiber to the home component, testing, and troubleshooting. 

Credit recommendation: 

In the associate degree/certificate degree category, 1 semester hour in Fiber Optic Technology, Fiber Optic Installation, Computer Networking, Computer Science, or Communications Technology (8/15).
