Participate effectively in the collaborative process of producing a play, including technical theatre terminology, space rentals, creating sets, lights, costumes, props, sound, and video, dramaturgical research for design and performance, and public relations; work within the basic rules of behavior for rehearsal and performance, including blocking notation and stage orientation basics, call times and sign-in sheets, and how to work with a Director; discuss the skills and challenges inherent in producing one's own theatre, including applications, letters, press, insurance, and umbrella companies, starting a non-profit company, and submission of new works.
This course introduces the student actor to an array of technical aspects that support a theatrical production, as well as to professional procedures and work ethics for rehearsal and performance. Students create a working template and production book for producing a theater show and gain real life skills through the practical experience of mounting a public production.
In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category or in the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 2 semester hours in Theatre, Drama, Communications, or Radio and Television (6/10).
