Learner Outcomes: 
Transcribe the sounds of spoken English into the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA); master the production of the sounds of a General American dialect; using IPA, transcribe and learn additional dialects.
Instruction: 
This course is designed to teach students how to master the production of the sounds of General American English and the notation of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) as a basis for learning any dialect, and then how to apply this technique to the study of additional dialects.
Credit recommendation: 
In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category or in the upper division baccalaureate degree category, 1 semester hour in Theatre, Drama, Communications, or Radio and Television (6/10).
