Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: research appropriate audition material; create a rehearsal process to prepare audition material for class; discuss reading assignments in class to further develop audition material; develop audition etiquette; and distinguish the differences between the genres of musical theatre.
Instruction:
This course teaches students how to research, choose and prepare appropriate audition material from all genres of American Musical Theatre. Students prepare a minimum of two songs per week and discuss the merits of the prepared material and decide which songs should be further prepared for work. Homework assignments include: reading Backstage; choosing appropriate songs for auditions listed. Class discussions include how to prepare music for an audition, how to enter the room and address the panel, how to talk to the accompanist, and how to exit the room. Each session includes work on material as well as discussions about auditions.
