NCCRS Evaluator Kenny Launches Child Literacy App
Veteran National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS) evaluator, Heather Kenny, PhD, and a colleague, have developed and launched a new app, Sounder & Friends™ The Game, that helps young children develop important literacy skills. Based on the popular animated series of the same name, the game invites beginning readers, ages 3 - 7, into a fun and enchanting world where sounds can be heard and seen. The app, which is free to download from Google Play and the Apple App Store, helps reading instruction be productive in a playful way, and promotes phonemic awareness, a critical early literacy skill. Kenny, an Associate Professor of Early Childhood Reading at Pennsylvania Western University at Edinboro, and the founder of Unleashed Innovation, Inc., has worked with NCCRS for more than 10 years, serving as an advisor to non-collegiate organizations, and providing counsel in determining when and if college credit recommendations are warranted.
