Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to develop and demonstrate skills in the basic techniques of painting different subject matter using oil paints. Emphasis is placed on the essential aspects of composition, lighting, and color choice.


Major topics are various techniques in painting with oil paints from proper care and usage of brushes to painting surfaces, paints and mediums and an introduction to a variety of painting techniques and styles. Students produce a minimum of four paintings of different themes. Each assignment explores a different painting technique and style.

Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Art (2/11) (4/16 revalidation) (3/21 revalidation).
