Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: recognize, choose, use and care for the basic tools of painting and paints, use the basic techniques of painting different subject matter using oil paints, with an emphasis on the essential aspects of composition, lighting and color choice.

Instruction: 

Topics include: various techniques in painting with oil paints from proper care and usage of brushes to painting surfaces, paints and mediums and an introduction to a variety of painting techniques and styles. Students produce a minimum of four paintings of different themes. Each assignment explores a different painting technique and style.

Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in Art (2/11) (4/16 revalidation) (3/21 revalidation).
