Learner Outcomes: 

The course objective is to provide students with an understanding of the basic principles and skills of management and leadership. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to create a leadership vision and a plan to move forward; implement a plan using the planning process model; identify Key Results Areas (KRA) to define performance goals; apply prescribed decision making techniques; develop measureable goals; determine roles and delegate tasks; apply effective questioning and listening skills to improve communication; and appreciate the importance of life/work balance.

Instruction: 

This course is delivered via distance learning format. Methods of instruction include: audio visual materials, practical exercises, learner presentations, lecture, discussion, classroom exercises, and computer-based training. The general topics include: developing personal leadership, achieving organizational results, planning and motivation, implementing the delegation process and handling mistakes, and the coaching process. Evaluation methods include complete attendance requirements by participating in at least three of four sessions and demonstrate visible improvement in the program related skills as indicated by projects and reports.

Credit recommendation: 

In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Management or Communication or Leadership (9/12).
