Learner Outcomes: 

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to: effectively communicate ideas about the life and culture of Blacks in America from 1865 to the present; identify prominent African-American people, events, and their contributions to American from 1865 to the present; provide critical analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of historical facts; and engage in class discussions based on personal opinions and reflections.

Instruction: 

This course examines historical, cultural, and political roles of African-Americans in the United States up to 1865 up to the present through classroom-based instruction consisting of lecture/discussion, assigned readings, written assignments, midterm and final exams, class participation, field trips, videos, and written papers.

Credit recommendation: 
In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 3 semester hours in African-American History (2/12).
