WASHINGTON — If a news report on a preliminary draft of the Trump administration’s proposed education budget is accurate, the budget represents a “historic assault on college affordability,” a senior executive for the American Council on Education (ACE) said Thursday.
HAMPTON, Virginia - Jeion Ward decided it was time to do something about teaching young drivers how to handle a police stop when she realized her grandson had reached driving age.
"My grandbaby!" said Ward, a delegate who represents Hampton in the Virginia General Assembly. As an African American, she has seen her husband and three grown sons deal with what many describe as the special tension of interacting with police while black.
So Ward crafted a bill requiring driver's education classes to teach students how to handle themselves during a traffic stop.
The Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) is New York State’s only state-funded dropout prevention program directly connected to higher education which prepares students for post-secondary education and careers.
Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman and State Education Commissioner MaryEllen Elia today reminded school districts of their duty to comply with existing state and federal laws that ensure the rights of immigrant children to attend New York’s public schools without fear of reprisal.

(ALBANY, N.Y.) Credit recommendations for courses offered by Nassau County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Academy, an NCCRS member since 1996, have been extended for five years.
This benefit provides an opportunity for students who successfully complete the Academy's evaluated courses to gain access to college credit to transfer toward degree programs offered by various colleges and universities nationwide.

(ALBANY, N.Y.) The International Training Institute for the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Industry (ITI) announced that the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS) has evaluated and recommended college credit for its apprenticeships.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro announced details for the city’s year-long celebration of the FDNY’s 150th anniversary in 2015.
The FDNY, established as a paid professional organization in 1865, will host a series of events throughout the year, including multiple community-based events. They will be designed both as a celebration of the Department’s history of service and to encourage young men and women to pursue the extraordinary public service careers available in the Department as firefighters, paramedics and EMTs.
